A Rainy Austrian Destination Wedding at the beautiful Mattsee

When you’re planning your destination wedding you probably aren’t imagining a Rainy Destination Wedding day in Austria. But sometimes these things happen.

You might also be wondering if it would help to have a wedding photographer who speaks the local language. And that’s a great idea. Being able to speak to both the bride and groom’s Austrian and UK family and friends helped massively on the day. It meant that we got the formal parts of the day done more smoothly and quickly. And that’s great when you want to make the most of your time and spend as much as possible with your favourite people.

Rain for Good Luck at Castle Hotel Iglhauser

Apparently, in Austria, it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day. At least that’s what the bridesmaids said. It get’s it out of the way and you’ll have more sunshine during your marriage.

Obviously, no bride likes rain on her wedding day, and especially at your destination wedding when either side of your wedding day the sun shines bright and warm. It’s also annoying when you’ve been planning your wedding in Austria to get away from the rainy weather in the UK. But if you must have rain on your wedding day, then the Austrian superstition is a good one to keep in mind.

That’s what Martina did as she prepared at the traditional Austrial Castle Hotel Iglhauser. The Castle Hotel Iglhauser is an old palace brewery on the peninsula of Mattsee, just a short trip from Salzburg. It cleverly marries the old traditional Castle buildings with modern extensions that flood the building with light and add a touch of luxury and contemporary comfort.

Martina and Philip spread their wedding celebrations over two days. They had their civil ceremony in traditional Austrian attire at the Registry office around the corner followed by their white wedding in the stunning Stiftskirche the next day. Queue the emotional groom who couldn’t hold back the tears when Martina walked down the aisle.

Their wedding reception was fabulously organised by the very talented Daniela Kainz. It took place back at the Castle Hotel Iglhauser, which was perfect for a wedding that wouldn’t let the torrential rain dampen the celebrations. Instead, Martina and Philip made full use of the many facets of this amazing building. Their speeches were followed by full throttle singing, wedding games and hilarious dance moves. It was such a hilarious wedding party.
