I have been in love with the stunning wedding dresses designed and beautifully handmade by Derbyshire Couture designer Haarlem Bridal for quite a while. So I was over the moon when they asked me to travel to the East Midlands and to photograph their glamorous new range of wedding dresses in a 1920s wedding inspiration styled shoot.

As a wedding photographer, I love the open hills and views of the Derbyshire Peak District. Winding roads take you to the market town of Wirksworth and this is where you’ll find Haarlem Bridal. And the warmth and friendliness of the people that you meet there will immediately capture your heart.

The lovely ladies at Haarlem Bridal are no exception. With lots of jokes, two gorgeous little babies to squeeze, and an endless supply of tea we were giggling and comfortably shooting within minutes.

A shoot like this is every wedding photographer’s dream. For over a month everyone involved pinned 20s style photographs to a secret board on Pinterest and we all agreed that we wanted to stay true to the 1920s in our shoot.

We also agreed to all meet at Haarlem Bridal’s boutique in Wirksworth, where the 1920s styled shoot would take place.

The 1920s Wedding Inspiration Styled Shoot

When the month was finally over and the day of the 1920s wedding inspiration styled shoot arrived, the boutique was beautifully dressed with sweet-smelling cakes, 1920s style flowers and period accessories, including English vintage china, glassware, table linens and vintage props. I can hardly describe how delicious those cakes were! And yes, we did get to try lots of them at the end of the day, which made me very very happy. I mean, seriously, who could resist?

The accessories and flowers brought the 1920s look and atmosphere to life, and once David was finished with our model Laura’s 1920s makeup and hair we were ready to go. Laura is very talented and a great pleasure to work with and so the time simply flew by with lots of jokes and laughs.

If you’re a bride looking for a really unique period style dress from either the 1920s or 1950s that is made to measure with lots of love and attention to detail, then definitely consider Haarlem Bridal. And once you see their dresses, I promise you will fall in love just as I have.

A few of the photographs from this 1920s wedding inspiration styled shoot will feature in the upcoming issue of Save the Date Magazine, so keep an eye out for that too. I am so chuffed with the way everything came together and with how stunning these photographs turned out.

Thank you to everyone for making it such a great experience.
