As destination winter weddings or any winter weddings for that matter go, this is definitely one of my favourites and I am truly and madly in love with the wonderful city of Copenhagen! Especially when the light is blue and low as it is at winter weddings.
Copenhagen wedding photographer for a destination winter wedding! How good does it get?
Lise Mia and Søren are very funny people, so I knew their winter wedding was going to be full of surprises and funny unmissable moments and I was very excited when they asked me to be their photographer on their wedding day. And you know, I’m just a sucker for destination weddings!
The day began at their place in the heart of Nørrebro, where both of them greeted me with a leisurely cup of tea, slices of apple and cookies. Very relaxed, both of them started to get ready and then headed for the beautiful St Johannes church. If you’re going to get married in Copenhagen, this church is gorgeous for your destination wedding ceremony and as a Copenhagen wedding photographer, one of my favourites. It has lovely arched blue ceilings and great big glass windows that flood it with light.
The winter wedding ceremony ended Søren and Lise Mia shaking hands as is customary in Danish tradition to seal the deal and make their marriage official 🙂 and then the newly married couple and their guests headed to their reception venue at the Literaturhaus.
At the Literaturhaus, which is a great little wedding venue just around the corner from the St Johannes church in Nørrebro, there was delicious home-made cake, lots of spontaneous speeches, songs and stories and the traditional ‘Bridal Waltz’, which was a hilarious new take on the first dance even for me.
The married couple danced together and all of their guests started crowding in on them, eventually squeezing them in tightly. They lifted the groom above their heads and cut off both his tie and the tips of his socks. Leave it to the Danes to come up with a fantastic wedding tradition for the first dance such as this. Brilliant!
The only thing left to do was to throw the bridal bouquet, introduce the band and rock the night away.
If you’re up for it, I’ll go back to shoot your destination wedding or winter wedding as your Copenhagen wedding photographer any day, so do get in touch, but first – feast your eyes on this one.
