The Hurlingham Club is one of my favourite venues, because it is so versatile and beautiful in any season. Spring in particular can be a really tricky season for an engagement shoot. The weather can be unpredictable and the conditions less than ideal. It can be muddy, wet and chilly. The days are still short and it gets dark at an earlier time. But it can also be one of the most beautiful seasons for a pre-wedding shoot. From daffodils to cherry blossom, to tulips and bluebells, the grounds at the Hurlingham Club pop with colour. So it was the perfect venue for this Colourful Spring Engagement Shoot.

Colourful blooms on a chilly Spring day

After seeing their friends’ photos from their glamorous wedding at the Hurlingham Club, Bryony and Charlie decided to book me to photograph their wedding there, as well as their laid back South of France Destination Wedding too. I was thrilled. But before they headed off on their French adventure, both of them were keen to loose some of their camera jitters by meeting up for an Engagement Shoot in the beautiful Hurlingham Club grounds.

It was a chilly windy day, but the sun shone intermittently and warmed our faces in between gusts. Because of this, the grounds at the Hurlingham Club weren’t very busy and we could explore them at will.

The intense pinks of the cherry blossom and the bright blues of the bluebells drew us in and we went for a walk around the paths and alleys. It felt so relaxing to walk through what seemed like a wild forest rather than these beautifully curated gardens.

And how lucky to be around for the bluebells, since they only bloom for around 2 weeks per year. That in itself made this Spring Engagement Shoot worth it.

From the bridge to the sunken Garden

It was so lovely to explore the colourful grounds without the time pressures of a wedding day timeline to move us along. Without having to rush to anywhere, we were able to take our time and walk from the bridge to the sunken garden, and from the bluebells to the Rose garden. So much colour to feast your eyes on.

It makes you realise just how much these grounds have to offer in terms of beautiful backgrounds and locations.

And since the grounds are tended to bloom all year round, they also look uniquely different in each season. Just imagine the colours during a Summer or Autumn shoot.

There are so many more places here that we could have explored, but with the windchill increasing and the sun setting we decided to end it there and go and warm up. Over a warm cup of tea, we plotted our path for their wedding day and chatted all things beach and sunshine for their South of France wedding too. It was a great way to end their Colourful Spring Engagement Shoot at the Hurlingham Club.
