Every time I go to Brighton, I fall a little bit more in love with it. It’s a city with such a vibrant heart, and the fact that it’s on the coast just makes it that much more lovely. When Lucy and Anouar got in touch and told me that they were not only getting married in Brighton, but that they were having a Royal Pavilion wedding – to my mind one of THE most iconic ceremony spaces in southern England – I couldn’t say yes fast enough!

Each wedding I shoot gives me the right sort of nervous butterflies. It’s so important to me that I capture images for each couple that they will want to look at and love for years to come. But when there’s a photography connection, the pressure to do a fabulous job is even higher. Lucy is the sister in law of a photographer friend of mine, and his wife was the gorgeous maid of honour at this Brighton Royal Pavilion wedding. Time to pull out all the stops!

Thankfully, Lucy and Anouar, their friends, and loved ones made it really easy for me. Their wedding was short and sweet, but had so much joy packed in to it from start to finish. Anouar hails from Morocco, and his family had flown in especially for the wedding. They brought a lot of laughter and a real party spirit with them. Throughout the day the Moroccan contingent chanted congratulations to the couple, which punctuated the celebrations in a really joyful way.

Bubbles and Bright Flowers for a Brighton Royal Pavilion Wedding

The ceremony room and surrounding spaces at the Royal Pavilion is quite frankly jaw dropping. It’s so opulent and the colours are so rich. Practically impossible not to get a beautiful shot. Needless to say, I was in my colour-mad element as I snapped away during the emotional ceremony and portraits afterwards.

There were several simple little touches at this Royal Pavilion wedding that were so gorgeously effective. First off, the concept of buttonholes for all! Every guest wore a bright yellow rose pinned to their lapel. Not only did it make for a beautiful splash of colour, but it was a lovely way to make everyone feel involved, and to create a little wedding community!

I also absolutely loved their confetti choice. Not a flower petal or piece of shredded paper in sight, instead, Lucy’s friend had brought bubbles to blow over the couple. It was really whimsical and lovely, and the kids went nuts for it!

Before we headed to the reception meal, I took Lucy and Anouar off for some relaxed portraits. Kudos to Lucy for gamely leaping over a fence so we could get some shots outside the pavilion!

Of course, I couldn’t do a Brighton wedding without some seaside images, so off we went to the beach and the Brighton Bandstand. This wedding took place off season, which meant we weren’t fighting with summer crowds. Don’t they just look like they have the beach to themselves? Gorgeous!

If you’re planning a wedding and want pictures that shout your love loudly and proudly, why not drop me a line? I’d love to hear from you.
